community recording @ 6018 North

To create 'boundarymind' Linda Jankowska and Katherine Young recorded sounds produced by significant objects from their pasts. During this community recording event, we invite you (anyone!) to add your sonic memories to our project!

All you have to do is show up with one or two objects (could be a toy, a photograph, a book, a lucky coin, a kinship necklace - anything!) that hold significance to you.

We will provide microphones, headphones, and various materials with which you can explore the sound-making potential of the object. You will get a copy of the recording, and, with your permission and if you’d like to participate, your recording could be added to a database of sounds for participants and future iterations of boundarymind, including an installation for ESS's Audible Gallery for fall 2022.

We would also love to learn (and record) the story around the object, if you are interested in sharing. No prior musical or sound art experience required - only an openness to listen and share. Katherine and Linda, as well as an ESS sound engineer, will be available to assist.

This event is free and open to the public.

Please join us for a community BBQ tonight, as well! Hang out for a while before or after you record your object.
